When Mattye and Woody sent me over their inquiry I knew I was going to love them. It went something like this:
“We love each other, cupcakes, Jesus, Alabama football, naps and St. Simons! We are excited to have a beautiful day shared with those we love and are passionate about finding someone to help us capture the detail and beauty of our wedding.” We talked via email and on the phone and knew we were a great match. Brent and I are so excited about their wedding in November!
We had an amazing time styling their engagement shoot together with Mattye and Woody. We took pieces of who they are as a couple and individually and compiled it all together with wardrobe and locations to emphasize the different concepts we were aiming at for a lovely 2 day engagement shoot, because well, we just had too many ideas for only one day!
Here’s what they had to say about it:
“From the planning to the actual shoot, we loved our engagement session in every way. We had so much fun brainstorming ideas together with Sarah and creating boards on Pinterest specifically for engagement shoot inspiration. We compiled several of our favorite looks from our wardrobes and Sarah met with us to help us determine what to wear at each location. The collaborative effort of the shoot allowed us to create some photos that are not only creative and fresh, but very true to our personalities. From cotton candy to gummy bears, from cuddling to making “moon eyes,” from a cake tasting to elegant poses, the little details made our photos fun and personal. During the shoot, Sarah could not have done more to make us feel comfortable and excited. She gave us direction while still allowing us to be ourselves, and provided feedback when we hit a great pose or facial expression. She even gave us a couple sneak peeks of the raw footage which amped up our excitement for the final product all the more! The experience of our engagement session has been one of our favorite memories of our engagment, and the final product is breathtaking. The photos are everything we hoped they’d be: artistic, stylish and fun expressions of our love.” -Mattye and Woody
This is why it is so important to me to have relationships with my clients that are more than just the normal showupandshootontheweddingday photographer-client relationship. I love to get to know my couples over coffee, skype, or dinner because I can better tell their story if I know who they are, how they interact, and what makes them happy. Mattye and Woody love sweets, so naturally their cake was super important to them for their wedding planning. I came with Mattye and Woody to their cake tasting and we brought the samples from I Do Cakes over to some railroad tracks (which have special meaning to Mattye and Woody back home) for some fun and fashionable photos!
How fun is it that this is their real cake tasting? I loved the way Mary Ann Daniels packaged her cakes for tasting. So cute! And Mattye’s dress! Oh my gosh! She brought it along as an option and it was my first pick. Mattye said she knew I would love it and she was right. So elegant with just the right amount of sass!

Although we planned out the session locations and looks to a T we also left in some wiggle room for whatever inspired us along the way. And we are so glad we did.
How cute are these two?! Woody is confident, an innovative thinker, and leader with a playful spirit. I think this is conveyed in the photo on the left below. 
And Mattye, she is the kind of girl who can be your best friend in .2 seconds. Plus, she is thoughtful, endlessly elegant and knows what she wants. Love this girl!

The wind picked up at just the right time to confirm the fact that Mattye should be a hair model.
Mattye and Woody love some southern cookin’! One of their favorite places to eat when they are on St Simons is Barbara Jeans, so they wanted to capture that for memories down the road.
